TS1 – Retrieval medicine in the NT with CareFlight

Date: Friday 6 September 2024

Step into the world of aeromedical retrieval with a visit to CareFlight NT and participate in a behind the scenes tour of the base at Darwin International Airport. Meet our crews and aircraft including our Gulfstream jets, King Air turboprop aircraft and AW139 helicopters.
Undertake elements of training and simulation that our retrieval doctors and nurses complete to prepare them for medicine in the air. As this is an active base,
there may be the opportunity to watch a mission being triaged and tasked or a mission returning.

TS2 Trainee session – regional anaesthesia

An exclusive free-of-charge trainee only session with Prof Ki-Jinn Chin, one of the world leaders in regional anaesthesia. Discussing ‘the biggest bang for your block: how to optimise your regional anaesthesia practice’ and using live ultrasound scanning, this is a phenomenal opportunity for
trainees to finesse their skills.

TS3 Trainee session – self care and wellbeing

A unique free-of charge trainee only session with the Australian of the
Year 2023 NT Local Hero, social worker Sacha King. Sacha King founded the Two Two One Mental Health Charity in 2019. She aims to close the gaps in mental health service delivery and education in the Northern Territory. Her workshop will focus on self-care and wellbeing during trainee and junior consultant years – a topic that she has presented at other health conferences with excellent feedback!

Trainee boat cruise

Take a short walk from the convention centre and join your fellow Trainees along with a few of the conference’s invited speakers aboard the fully crewed, historic 65ft pearling lugger, Streeter.

Take in the sights and marine life of Darwin Harbour, then enjoy the breathtaking sunset from the deck of this award winning vessel.

As the sun sets the afterglow turns the Darwin sky to a canvas of colours. To conclude the evening, the stars appear as we make our way back to Stokes Hill Wharf with the Darwin City as our backdrop… just stunning! You are welcome to book an extra ticket or two for partners and friends to join in the fun!
